Fringe Season 5 Episode 1 Fringe season 5 premieres Friday with episode 1, "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11,” which will see the Fringe team in the future after episode 419, "Letters of Transit,” as they search for Olivia and find out just what the Observers have done to the world.
Fringe Season 5 Episode 1 The first sneak peek (below) gives a look at some of what’s new in the future. There are now egg sticks for breakfast (or "punishment food,” as Peter calls them, which seems like a pretty accurate description; they don’t exactly sound tasty), but at least there’s tea (that seems to at least be the same). Apparently Words With Friends (or a similar game, at least) is still around, and Astrid disagrees when the computer says her word is not found. Fringe Season 5 Episode 1 Once Walter puts on pants, they can get moving on the search for Olivia. Her last known location is Columbus Circle, but that was in 2015. There’s no guarantee she’s still there, especially since the line went dead when she called Walter back then. However, they do have to find her. She has the piece that will unlock the entire plan to defeat the Observers. All they can do is hope she’s in the same area.
Fringe Season 5 Episode 1 The second Fringe season 5 episode 1 sneak peek (below) shows Etta explaining another change in the future. The Observers have built machines that pump carbon monoxide into the atmosphere because the air was too oxygen-rich for them. However, this has negatively impacted non-Observers, whose lifespan has been reduced. Though they do find the area that Olivia may have been in, it’s ambered. Walter explains they had talked about using amber as a last resort, and she wasn’t the only one who would have had her own amber device (some wounds still haven’t healed for Walter, though Astrid tries to apologize for him). However, it looks like Amber Gypsies have Olivia because some people have been cut out.
Fringe Season 5 Episode 1 The third "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11″ clip (below) shows Etta introducing the others to the Black Market, where of course Walter gets distracted for a moment. Etta sends Peter and Astrid ahead to talk to the gypsies—they’ll recognize her—with cash and walnuts (which are worth quite a bit in 2036, another change). Once it’s proven Peter and Astrid aren’t loyalists but just "concerned family members,” they’re pointed in the right direction. Oh how things have changed.
Fringe Season 5 Episode 1 Always teetering on the edge of cancellation, despite the impeccable quality of the on-air product, Fringe is one of numerous programs that has already announced that the upcoming year would be the series’ last. It’s a trend these days to ‘grant’ acclaimed and beloved but not necessarily widely watched shows an often truncated final season. Yes, it’s sad to know that Fringe is ending (and soon) but at the same time impressive and satisfying (well, hopefully) that the demanding science fiction series managed to make it this far. All the way to 2036.
Fringe Season 5 Episode 1 Fox just released a new preview for the final 13 episodes of Fringe with a trailer aptly titled the "Season 5 (Remix).” I say aptly titled because the first half recycles what we’ve already seen from previous spots for the season before the second brings entirely new, and intense, footage. Fringe Season 5 Episode 1 er The Observers are still coming, that hasn’t changed, but we didn’t know before the "Remix” is that they’d be coming for Walter. In what looks like a Matrix style, Agent Smith versus Morpheus showdown, Walter is captured and questioned by one of the lead Observers because the shattered genius has successfully devised a way to rid the Earth of the invaders from the future. Will it work? We don’t know but could it finally be enough to get John Noble a much deserved Emmy nomination? Sorry, the awards are still on the brain and mine’s not an excellent specimen. But, using the limited powers of deduction I do have, the final line sounds to me like Olivia will be a key ingredient in his plan. What do you think?
